Los Angeles is the front-runner over Chicago to be the venue for the 2015 NFL Draft, according to NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced two weeks ago that the draft would not be in New York City next year, where it has been held since 1965, and that Los Angeles and Chicago were the finalists.

NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport has reported that possible dates for the draft are April 22-25 and April 29-May 2 of next year.

The event has been held at New York's fabled Radio City Music Hall since 2006.

When the NFL decided to consider other venue options, 12 cities showed interest, and Goodell announced the league had narrowed the field to two on July 17. The commissioner also suggested other format changes to the draft could be forthcoming.

"We're talking about different concepts, primarily how to strengthen the last day and whether we should maybe push that back to the clubs a little bit more and allow the clubs to have a little bit more freedom as more of a club day," Goodell said.

This year, the draft was held May 8-10 -- two weeks later than its traditional late-April date.
