Brandon Browner isn't backing down in his fight against a lengthy league suspension.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Browner has turned down a deal that would significantly reduce his one-year suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, according to a source informed of the player's appeal. The Seattle Seahawks cornerback will continue his appeal process.
Fox Sports reported earlier Friday that Browner was given the opportunity to reduce his ban by nearly three months. Had he accepted the reduction, he could have returned to the field -- likely with a team other than the Seahawks -- next October.
His decision to continue his appeal process means he could find himself out of action until next December if the appeal is not successful.
It's quite a gamble for Browner, who might struggle to find a job in 2014 if teams know he can't help them until the final quarter of the regular season. Then again, Browner, 29, understands the upcoming offseason could be his last chance to cash in as a free agent. Browner doesn't want to be on the suspended list when teams take out their checkbooks in March.
