Blair Walsh sets NFL record for 50-yard-plus field goals

Minnesota Vikings rookie kicker Blair Walsh set an NFL single-season record Sunday with his ninth 50-yard-plus field goal as he connected on a career-long 56-yarder against the Houston Texans.

Walsh, whose second-quarter kick cleared the crossbar with about 10 yards to spare, is 9 of 9 from beyond 50 yards this season. His kick broke the NFL single-season record of eight field goals of 50-plus yards, previously shared by Morten Anderson, who made 8 of 9 for the Atlanta Falcons in 1995, and Jason Hanson, who connected on 8 of 8 for the Detroit Lions in 2008.

Walsh's 56-yard kick also tied a Vikings record for longest field goal. Paul Edinger also had a 56-yarder in 2005.
