Bishop Sankey's role to increase in Titans' offense

Coach Ken Whisenhunt cited footwork issues last week for Bishop Sankey's limited role in a struggling Tennessee Titans offense.

After Sankey led the backfield in rushing against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4, Whisenhunt has seen enough to increase the second-round rookie's workload going forward.

"You will see (more reps for Sankey). That's coming," Whisenhunt said Tuesday on WGFX Nashville, via the Tennessean. "And I think you'll see more of that earlier in the game this week."

Whisenhunt attributed Sankey's August fumbling problems to shoddy footwork, but acknowledges improvement in that area versus the Colts.

"There's only so much that a young guy, you can throw on his plate, because you want him to continue on this curve where he is improving and getting better," Whisenhunt added. "He's made strides and done some of the things we've asked him. ... He's going to get in the game earlier no matter what because he's a good football player, but that's coming."

Sankey is averaging 5.7 yards per touch through four games compared to 5.1 for Dexter McCluster and 4.7 for Shonn Greene.

In a season trending in the wrong direction, it's time to see what the most talented player of the bunch can provide with an expanded role.
