Bills sign TE Gaines

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -– The Bills announced the signing of tight end Michael Gaines on Monday. In accordance with team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Bills are now carrying 53 players on the active roster. TE Matt Murphy was released on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Gaines, 27, spent his first three NFL seasons with the Carolina Panthers. The 6-3, 277-pound tight end has started 21 of 42 career games. He produced a career-high 15 receptions and nine starts in 2006. He has 31 career receptions for 335 yards and two touchdowns.

Gaines was drafted in the seventh round (232nd overall) in the 2004 NFL Draft. Gaines played his college football at Central Florida and was the school's first tight end to get drafted. He is a native of Tallahassee, Fla.
