The Denver Broncos announced Thursday that the veteran defensive lineman has agreed to a one-year contract with the team. The deal is for $2 million, according to Smith's agent.
Smith, 33, joins the Broncos after one quiet season with the Raiders, who saved $3.2 million by releasing the veteran on Tuesday. Smith started 16 games and played 791 snaps for Oakland, finishing with three sacks, 20 tackles and one forced fumble. Smith graded out on ProFootballFocus.com as a solid pass rusher and poor run defender in 2014.
There was speculation that Smith could have a homecoming in Houston, where he played from 2009 to 2013. But he lands in Denver, where he'll likely step into a situational pass rusher role with an AFC contender. Smith has landed on his feet.
