Alabama State's Billups a potential developmental player

Representatives from 10 NFL teams attended Alabama State's pro day, where 13 players worked out outdoors in 65-degree temperatures and rainy conditions. This was a good opportunity for scouts to test a lot of small-school players.

One potential developmental prospect was Alabama State defensive tackle Derrick "Bill" Billups (6-foot-1 3/4, 338 pounds). Billups ran the 40-yard dash in 5.39 and 5.43 seconds. He had a 25 1/2-inch vertical jump and 7-foot-7 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 5.12 seconds and the three-cone drill in 8.44 seconds. He performed 25 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. This is a guy that can be brought into an NFL camp and hope to get him down 15 pounds or so.
