Winfield isn't as tall or as long as teams like and he's an average athlete, but he's an interchangeable safety who can flat out play. Winfield is stout and strong with above average body control and balance. He can bang on tight ends in coverage and support the run near the box. His angles to the ball are efficient against the run or pass. He's very instinctive and sees plays unfold, but doesn't have ballhawking twitch to challenge a high number of throws. His tackle net isn't as wide in the open field, so he must tackle with excellent fundamentals. Winfield isn't a star but he's a quality building block with the toughness and intelligence to help fortify the back end.

Contested-catch warrior who plays the game like a big brother imposing his will on his younger brothers on the playground. Johnson's lack of speed and explosiveness make it hard to create clean catch windows unless he's working against zone. However, he's an absolute rebound champ, using instincts, timing and an impressive knowledge of body control to keep defenders away from the football and make it his own. His production speaks directly to his ball skills and competitiveness, but physical limitations might pigeon-hole him into a role as a zone-beating possession slot with red-zone talent.

Smallish edge defender who plays with high football IQ and motor to help create impact production. Coughlin is a proactive rusher who mixes up his approach to access the edge, but he'll need to develop his hands and play with leverage to beat NFL tackles. He may be between positions due to a lack of size and suddenness, so shining as a core special-teamer is essential.

Williamson has good size and the body type to get even bigger as a down defender. He was used in the role of big nickel, acting as an extra linebacker near the line of scrimmage while spot-dropping into coverage underneath. He's willing and decisive as a run defender and sees what he hits, but he doesn't carry much stopping power. He's lacking in reactive athleticism to track slashers in run support and cover slots man-to-man. The lack of production and subpar explosiveness could hurt his chances of being drafted or making a squad.

Angular linebacker with decent straight-line twitch who takes too long to diagnose and flow, making him a viable block for climbing linemen. He plays upright and a little stiff in his scrapes and doesn't find his run fits as efficiently as he needs to. He can gather and wrap as a tackler, but will struggle to finish elusive backs in the open field and he's unimpressive as a passing-down participant. Martin's lack of early play recognition and elusive flow to ball might push him outside as a 4-3 SAM option.

Will be a 24-year-old rookie running back after taking two redshirts (one medical) and playing four full seasons. Smith won't put together a viral highlight reel, but he runs with discipline and does his job. He was an important part of the Gophers' impressive 2019 campaign. He keeps the run on track and has some feel for blocking schemes, but lacks creativity and juice on the second level. Smith gets after it in pass protection, which might give him a boost against roster competition at his position.
