While Gary Kubiak was with the Texans, he took Duane Brown late in the first round because he covets tackles athletic enough to fit into his zone scheme and talented as pass blockers. That usually means an early selection. During Wade Phillips' tenure with Kubiak, the Texans drafted J.J. Watt (first round), Whitney Mercilus (first) and Brooks Reed (second) along the defensive front. Guard and tight end are both needs but can usually be found beyond the first three rounds for this offense.
