Zoltan Mesko signs with Pittsburgh Steelers

Zoltan Mesko wasn't out of work for long.'s Ian Rapoport reported Monday that the punter -- a surprise cut by the New England Patriots on Saturday -- would sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to a person informed of the deal. The Steelers' official website later confirmed the signing, as did Mesko.

To make room for Mesko, the Steelers released incumbent punter Drew Butler, who started all 16 games last season.

Mesko spent the previous three seasons with the Patriots before rookie Ryan Allen beat him out in training camp. Mesko's price tag -- he was due to earn $1.323 million -- likely played into his exit as well.

It's not a move that will swing the balance of power in the AFC, but it's a nice pickup for the Steelers, who obviously had some reservations with their in-house option at punter.

Also -- and this is more of a personal note -- it's good to have a dude named Zoltan Mesko back in the league.
