Last Sunday, the Cleveland Browns wheeled out Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson in a tight loss to the Baltimore Ravens. One week later, almost nothing looks the same.
Weeden, out with a sprained thumb, has been replaced by Brian Hoyer. In the backfield, Richardson is gone -- shipped to the Indianapolis Colts for a draft pick -- making way for veteran Willis McGahee, who signed with the team Thursday and will see immediate action.
McGahee will play in Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, coach Rob Chudzinskitold reporters Friday, per The Plain Dealer.
Less than a year removed from the torn MCL and compression fracture that ended his 2012 campaign, McGahee reportedly is in "great shape" after passing physicals from three teams, including the Browns.
He ran for 1,199 yards with the Broncos in 2011 and another 731 in 10 appearances with Denver last season, but don't expect those numbers in Cleveland. In a backfield with Chris Ogbonnaya and Bobby Rainey, McGahee brings more experience than both players combined twice over, but the signing is a patch.
The Brownswon't replace Richardson's elusiveness, or his hard-charging running style -- not this season at least. Richardson started in just 17 games with the Browns before the team parted ways. McGahee won't even last that long.
