Jay Gruden -- introduced Thursday as the team's new coach -- left no room for misinterpretation during an interview with a local radio station.

"Robert Griffin III is the starter," he told WJFK-FM. "There will be no competition."

Gruden said during his news conference he'd yet to meet with Griffin, an acknowledgment that threw cold water on any theories that the quarterback played a key role in identifying Mike Shanahan's replacement.

NFL Media's Jeff Darlington reported that Griffin was not directly involved with the process, but the team believes Gruden fits the quarterback well.

Had Gruden lapsed into CoachSpeak® on Thursday, we'd all be doomed to a summer of RGIII versus Kirk Cousins analysis. It would be the worst.

Instead, Gruden gave us the straight (and logical) answer. He then bought pizza for the dozens of reporters who will be covering his every move in Washington. Jay Gruden was on fire.
