Larry Fitzgerald hasn't lost his sense of humor just yet, but the All-Pro receiver is feeling a little lonely without a legitimate wingman in Arizona.
"Here's the one small thing that everyone forgets about when Kurt (Warner) was here," Fitzgerald told The Arizona Republic this week. "We had this other guy, what was his name? Oh, yeah. Anquan Boldin. I think he made a couple Pro Bowls or something. He was a decent player around these parts. I wasn't here by myself. I had some talented guys around me."
Now, Fitzgerald is a man on an island.
"Right now, teams are saying, 'Fitzgerald is over here, we're not going to let him beat us. We're going to do whatever it takes to hold him down and not allow him to do that,'Â " he said.
"In years past, when I had (Boldin), even last year with Steve (Breaston), defenses approached it a little differently," Fitzgerald added. "There were times when I could find some (space). Now those times are few and far between."
Can we get this guy a little help?
The Cardinals went all in to land buzz-heavy quarterback Kevin Kolb, but he has been stymied by ineffective play behind a suspect offensive line this seasom, ranking 28th in the NFL in passer rating.
Cardinals fans screamed for another receiver, but on paper, this team did little to remedy the problem. As The Republic points out, Arizona could have re-signed Steve Breaston, who instead reunited with Todd Haley in Kansas City, or pursued a host of other pass-catchers. Malcolm Floyd, Lee Evans, Plaxico Burress and Braylon Edwards were up for grabs before the season.
Now they're somewhere else, and Fitzgerald's wondering why.
