Todd Bowles has landed on his feet with the Arizona Cardinals.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Saturday that Bowles has agreed to become the Cardinals' defensive coordinator, according to a team source.
Bowles, who served as the Philadelphia Eagles' defensive coordinator under Andy Reid last season, will replace Ray Horton, who was let go by the team this week. Horton landed the Cleveland Browns' defensive coordinator job on Friday.
Bowles gives new coachBruce Arians the fresh start on defense he spoke of during his introductory news conference. Arians cited Horton's pre-existing relationship with Cardinals players as a reason for deciding to go in a different direction.
"It needed to be a football team that was directed by me," Arians said Friday. "And any time there's carry over, you don't want guys being able to go somewhere else to voice their opinion."
Cardinals players could obviously still go elsewhere if they choose, but a fresh face perhaps lessens that chance.
