Titans' Munchak quiets rumors that he could be heading to PSU

Titans coach Mike Munchak played for Penn State under coach Joe Paterno from 1978-81. Munchak also is from Scranton, Pa., less than a three hour drive from State College, home of the Nittany Lions.

Add those two facts together, and it's no surprise that Munchak's name appears next to rumors on who could be the next head football coach at Penn State, as it did Thursday in the State College News.

Munchak, however, wasted no time to quiet the speculation that he planned to leave Tennessee after the season.

"I haven't contacted anybody about (the) Penn State job," Munchak told the Tennessean. "Nothing has been going on," he added, "I haven't reached out to anyone."

Munchak signed a three-year contract extension in February after he was promoted to the Titans' head coaching spot. Munchak, 51, is 6-5 in his first season as a head coach, equaling the number of the wins the team had in 2010.
