Tim Tebow won't play in New York Jets' preseason finale

Tim Tebow will have the night off, along with Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets' starters, in the team's final preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, coach Rex Ryan announced Friday, according to the New York Post.

The Jets have just three days between Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers and Thursday's matchup with the Eagles. It's not unusual for teams to hold starters out of the preseason finale.

The Jets will use No. 3 quarterback Greg McElroy and fourth-stringer Matt Simms, son of former New York Giants signal-caller Phil Simms, against the Eagles.

Sanchez will get his final reps of the preseason Sunday, as he is expected to play into the third quarter against the Panthers. Tebow is slated to take over and play the final quarter.

Tebow has completed 9 of 22 passes for 96 yards with an interception this preseason. He also has rushed six times for 39 yards.
