Texans surprise family of fallen Marine with a new home

For Sarah Wood, this year's holiday season arrives amid great loss -- namely, the death of her husband, Marine Staff Sergeant Scott Wood, who passed in November because of injuries suffered in Iraq.

Scott was a loyal Texans fan, something the franchise went out of its way to recognize during Sunday's game against the Panthers at Reliant Stadium.

As part of their "Home for the Holidays" program, Sarah and her 5-year-old son, Landon, were given a generous bundle of gifts.

Then came the stunner: a custom-built, mortgage-free house, courtesy of Operation Finally Home.

The gesture overwhelmed Sarah, bringing her to tears during the halftime ceremony.

"We're a huge Texans family. Scott never missed a Texans game," Wood told Houston Community Newspapers this week, noting that her husband was buried in an Andre Johnson jersey.

"I'm amazed and shocked and honored," Wood said. "So many people are coming together in Scott's honor and doing this."
