The Pittsburgh Steelers seemed surprised to see Terrelle Pryor scamper for an NFL record 93-yard touchdown on the Oakland Raiders' first play from scrimmage, and they weren't alone.
Backed up to their own 7-yard line to start the game, even Pryor's teammates expected the quarterback to hand the ball off to running back Darren McFadden.
"I heard the crowd cheering, I kind of looked at D-Mac and he looked like he was 5 or 6 yards downfield," center Stefen Wisniewski said, per Bay Area News Group. "I was like, 'Are we that excited about a 5- or 6-yard gain?'
"Sure enough, I look up and Pryor's at the 50 with no one around him and I'm like, 'Oh, that's why they're cheering. Sweet.'"
Pryor's own teammates still are getting used to his dynamic skills.
His passing, however, remains a work in progress. His 25.7 passer rating was the worst for a winning quarterback since Craig Morton in 1972.
Pryor's athletic abilities will give him an extended chance to develop, but he must show improvement in his footwork, mechanics and decision-making if he wants to be the Raiders' quarterback of the future.
