Sebastian Janikowski injures groin in Raiders-Lions tilt

Seabass has been grounded.

The injury occurred on a double-whammy of a play for the Raiders. After Oakland took a 7-3 second-quarter lead, Janikowski booted the ensuing kickoff to Detroit's Stephfon Green, who escaped for an 80-yard return. Raiders special-teamer Matt Giordano pushed Green out of bounds at the Oakland 21, but Janikowski was seen limping after giving chase.

His backup, rookie Eddy Carmona, filled in with a Janikowski-esque field goal from 56 yards out to put Oakland up 10-6 at halftime.

Kicker injuries often don't make headlines, but Janikowski has been a rock for the Raiders since the team used a first-round draft pick on him in the 2000 draft.

In 12 seasons, Janikowski has nailed 79.6 percent of his field-goal attempts and knocked home 392 extra points. His 63-yard field goal in 2011 tied Tom Dempsey and Jason Elam for the longest in NFL history.
