Sean Payton shoots down Mark Ingram trade rumors

Mark Ingram isn't going anywhere.

New Orleans coach Sean Payton denied a report from CBS Sports that suggested the third-year Saints running back is seeking a trade. Payton said Sunday night it was "completely false" that Ingram might be shopped, telling The Times-Picayune that the report had "zero credibility."

Ingram didn't play in Sunday's 31-7 trouncing of the Arizona Cardinals because of a toe injury.

Stationed behind Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles, Ingram -- with 31 yards on 17 attempts this season -- hasn't lived up to his first-round draft status. He's the type of back who, at Alabama, grew stronger as games progressed, but that was college. In theory, he's a bell cow. In reality, his 1,107 yards in 28 appearances hardly suggests featured-back material.

It's possible a change of scenery would do wonders for Ingram. But that hasn't been the case for Chris Ivory with the New York Jets, and the Saints don't sound interested in moving another runner. Ingram's best move, for now, is to make the most of the opportunities he's given.
