Scobee: Sebastian Janikowski not rooting for A's a joke

There is nothing quite like a kicker beef.

Like a henhouse dispute, this one is all squawking.

It started when Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee discussed practicing at a baseball field in order to simulate the conditions for his team's Sunday game against the Oakland Raiders, who share a stadium with the Oakland Athletics.

Scobee told The Florida Times-Union that Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski told him he roots for the Athletics to miss the playoffs so the baseball diamond can be sodded over sooner.

Seabass took exception to Scobee's comment.

"I was pissed off," Janikowski said Thursday, insisting Scobee is lying, and that he attends A's games "all the time," per the San Francisco Chronicle.

"Whatever he says just blows my mind," Janikowski continued. "That didn't happen. Hell no. I just want to let you know. ... I kicked 14 years on it, it really doesn't bother me."

Oh. No. He. Didn't. (Z snap.)

Our best guess is that Scobee and Seabass were at an offseason kickers convention, drowning their sorrows of playing for cellar dwellers, and after a few too many sips of sherry, Janikowski half-truth joked about hating kicking on dirt.

Scobee then broke the kickers' code by telling reporters. What happens at kickers conventions, stays at kickers conventions.

We're sure Janikowski is an A's fan. The deeper the A's make it in the playoffs, the less heat his Raiders team will take for losing home games.

UPDATE: On Friday, Scobee told The Florida Times-Union's Gene Frenette that he called Janikowski to say that he was just kidding about the A's comments and things have been smoothed over with the Raiders kicker.
