Sapp on Steelers: 'This group of players is coming down'

It's become clear that Warren Sapp doesn't see big things for the Steelers this season.

One week after characterizing Pittsburgh's franchise as "old and slow," Sapp appeared on Showtime's "Inside the NFL" with Cris Collinsworth on Wednesday, characterizing their 24-0 win over the Seahawks as a mirage of sorts.

"By playing the Sisters of the Blind Seahawks -- now that rights the ship in Pittsburgh?" Sapp riffed, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "(Troy Polamalu) is still dragging the wagon. Who is there to cover on the Seattle Seahawks -- Cris (Collinsworth)? You would start at receiver for them right now. Where were (the Steelers) last season? The pinnacle, the Super Bowl. They lost that. This group of players is coming down. It's over."

Let's pause for a minute to note that Pittsburgh boasts the league's second-ranked defense and stands 13th in offense. Still, if Sapp's waiting for the Steelers to knock off a league power before he buys in, it won't happen this week. They're up against a wandering Colts team that's yielded 61 points in its first two games, both losses.

Perhaps Sapp sees a team that's dishing out lucrative extensions to players whose best days are in the rearview mirror, but this is a franchise that's set the standard for seamlessly transitioning from one winning era to the next. We're not about to count out Pittsburgh just yet.
