San Diego Chargers hosting 'Celebration of life' for Junior Seau

Junior Seau fans will be afforded one final chance to pay tribute to the longtime San Diego Chargers linebacker on Friday when the team will open up Qualcomm Stadium for an event expected to draw a capacity crowd.

The Chargers are footing the $10,000 one-day rental fee for use of the stadium and all expenses related to the use of police, first aid, traffic and other costs, stadium manager Mike McSweeney told U-T San Diego.

The event is being called a "Celebration of life" in honor of Seau, who died last Wednesday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

Admission and parking will both be free to the event, which will take place at 6:30 p.m. local time. The San Diego team said that guest speakers will share stories and memories about the positive impact Seau had on their lives.

The stadium's staff is set to meet Wednesday and provide estimates of the costs to the Chargers.

"The city is not picking up any portion of it," McSweeney said. "What it's going to cost at this point, we have no idea because we have no details on it yet."
