Saints' Roman Harper willing to defend Gregg Williams

With the release of the audio tape from filmmaker Sean Pamphilon, suspended defensive coordinator Gregg Williams became perhaps the biggest villain in the entire saga of the New Orleans Saints' "bounty" scandal. Williams imploring his players to target the heads of specific members of the San Francisco 49ers is pretty indefensible.

Some are willing to stick up for Williams, though, including current Saints safety Roman Harper, according to Bradley Handwerger of WWLTV.com. Harper called Williams a "good friend," a great motivator, and someone who helped bring a championship to the city of New Orleans.

Harper did acknowledge the existence of a prickly side to Williams.

"I've said that a million times," Harper said. "Gregg is the biggest butthole ever, but he's a great coach, though. He knows how to get guys playing fast, playing at a high level, he puts his player in position to make plays and that's what he wants you to do. He wants you to fly around and hit guys and play football the way it's meant to be played.

"I won't apologize for that and he shouldn't, either."
