Ryan Mathews looks strong at Chargers training camp

San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews was back on the field Wednesday night, just 48 hours after losing control of his car during a two-vehicle crash in San Diego.

Mathews went to the hospital for precautionary reasons, but he clearly didn't suffer any serious injuries.

"He looked fast to me," coach Norv Turner told U-T San Diego. "He looked real fast. He's a really explosive player. Just missing a couple days and then coming back out here, you just feel his presence."

If not for the accident, we would have placed Mathews on our list of veterans standing out in training camp. We've written all offseason that Mathews has the skill set to be a premier running back in the NFL. The Chargers are ready to give him the ball more than 300 times this season.

Mathews just has to stay healthy. So far, so good, despite this latest scare.
