Roethlisberger, Rivers among NFL's most underrated

Who's the most underrated quarterback in the NFL today?

If you ask us -- and let's just say you did -- the top two choices have to be Ben Roethlisberger and Philip Rivers. Both quarterbacks were revealed on Wednesday's episode of NFL Network's The Top 100 Players of 2014.

Roethlisberger (No. 30 on the list) and Rivers (No. 34) have plenty in common. Both were first-round picks in the 2004 draft and both have played their entire careers with one AFC team. Their career numbers are strikingly similar in several key categories.

Roethlisberger, of course, owns two more Super Bowl rings than Rivers, which might explain why Big Ben is ahead in the Top 100.

You can argue Roethlisberger and Rivers were two of the top five quarterbacks in the league last season. That they're the eighth and ninth QBs on this list shows how they get lost in the shuffle when discussing the game's best signal-callers.

A few more takeaways from Wednesday's show:

» Remember when the Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers were talking about a possible blockbuster deal in March? A secondary featuring Revis (No. 37) and Joe Haden (No. 39) would have been glorious.

» Niners pass rusher Aldon Smith was ranked No. 7 on this list last year. He came in at No. 33 this season. With a jail sentence and/or NFL suspension potentially on the horizon, will he even be on this list in 2015?

» Here's a question: If you're starting a team tomorrow, would you rather have Brandon Marshall (No. 36) or Larry Fitzgerald (No. 38)? Fitzgerald might be the more gifted receiver, but it remains to be seen if his body will cooperate as he hits the wrong side of 30.

» OK, Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams is a very nice player, but are we to believe there are only 31 players in the NFL who are better than him? Child please.

In the latest edition of the "Around The League Podcast," the heroes discuss which teams "realistically" have no shot at winning the Super Bowl this season.
