Robert Griffin III says he'll play for Redskins in Week 6

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III plans to play this week against the Minnesota Vikings. He left the game Sunday's loss to the Atlanta Falcons with a concussion in the third quarter.

Don't get us started on the Redskins' label of a "mild" concussion.

Griffin tweeted after the game, "Thank you for all the prayers & support I'm ok and I think after all the testing I will play next week."

The optimism is admirable, but players aren't doctors. It's in their nature that they want to play. The NFL, however, has a series of cognitive tests before a player can return to action -- and it's for a reason. There's no fooling them.

Griffin couldn't remember the quarter or the score of the game after he was hit. So we'll wait and see what the doctors say.

UPDATE:  RG3 is "doing alright" headed into Washington's stadium Monday morning, according to NFL.com and NFL Network's Michelle Beisner.
