The Washington Redskins have plenty of reasons to be optimistic about this year's offense.
Quarterback Robert Griffin III is another full offseason removed from knee surgery and is looking "extremely explosive," while the addition of DeSean Jackson alongside "Making the Leap" candidate Jordan Reed gives the 'Skins one of the conference's most dynamic group of pass-catchers.
Griffin, though, says we're all missing the boat on Washington's biggest weapon.
"I think everyone would lean towards DeSean or Pierre (Garcon) or Jordan Reed," RGIII said, per the team's official site. "I think it's (running back) Alfred (Morris). With him, defenses have to make a decision whether to put guys in the box to stop him or leave the box light and allow Alfred to go between the tackles and lure in the safeties. I think it will be interesting to see what defenses do against him."
It's a deserved nod to a young runner who was the unsung hero of Washington's NFC East title chase two seasons ago. Morris followed his 1,610-yard rookie campaign with another 1,275 yards last season in Kyle Shanahan's runner-friendly zone-blocking scheme. We fully expect his touches to decline under pass-happy new coach Jay Gruden.
Look for the Redskins to live and die through the air. If Gruden allowed Andy Dalton to throw the ball 500-plus times in each of his first three seasons, Griffin is a candidate to see 100 more attempts than last year's 456. Either way, this offense will be fun to monitor come September.
