Report: Aaron Rodgers, Packers ready for new contract

We're all happy for the man, but let's not bury one undeniable truth: Flacco is far from the best quarterback on the planet.

Opinions vary, but when you factor in age, past success and future potential, that title might belong to Green Bay Packers star Aaron Rodgers.

The same Rodgers due to earn $9.25 million in 2013, or about half the going rate for a premium quarterback in today's market. That might be about to change.

Citing a league source with knowledge of the situation, ProFootballTalk reported Tuesday that the Packers soon will take care of Rodgers.

"It is his time," the source said.

The source added that Rodgers' new contract "will set the benchmark that will stand for several years."

We're less convinced about that last part, but Rodgers' days as football's best value might be numbered.
