Andre Caldwell recently described a new world order in Denver, one that involved Peyton Manning seamlessly taking control of Broncos workouts.
"He's leading everything that he does," Caldwell said Thursday.
Manning is directing the on-field work, but the quarterback told The Denver Post he's still deferring to offensive coordinator Mike McCoy for the direction of the unit.
"We haven't gotten to that point," Manning said in response to reports the Broncos have changed to the no-huddle offense with which the QB is familiar. "What we are going to do (offensively) here depends on what Mike McCoy decides, based on the players we have, and I'm open to whatever direction that takes."
Manning added he never really operated a hurry-up offense with the Indianapolis Colts. It was more "hurry-up-and-wait," he said.
"Snapping the ball in a hurry isn't truly what we did all the time," he said. "We had different tempos."
In Tom Moore, Manning had a trusted guide for 14 years in Indy. The two created a specific language, now defunct as Manning begins his new journey in Denver. He relishes the challenge of starting over.
"You're in a comfort zone and have a sense of security when you're in the same system with the same coach for 14 years, but I'm thrilled with the challenge of learning a new terminology," Manning said.
Manning (as per usual) is saying the right things here, and we're sure McCoy has a voice in the room. But Manning's voice is the loudest -- let there be no mistake about that. The Broncos will rely heavily on his vision to build their offense.
