The Miami Dolphins are looking to the cupboard of a division rival in their ongoing search for their next general manager.
Nick Caserio, the New England Patriots' director of player personnel, was in South Florida on Friday to interview for Miami's front-office vacancy, according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. If the meeting goes well, Caserio will join the group of finalists that will interview with the team this weekend. The Dolphinslater confirmed that Caserio interviewed, via their Twitter account.
Caserio has been with the Patriots for the past 12 seasons and has served as the team's director of player personnel since 2008. He was the team's wide receivers coach in 2007 but otherwise has spent his time in the organization's personnel department.
Rapoport previously reported that Tennessee Titans vice president of player personnel Lake Dawson will have his third interview with Dolphins brass this weekend, according to a source informed of the team's plans. Miami assistant GM Brian Gaine has a final interview this weekend for the job, also per a source informed of the Dolphins' plans.
The Patriots already are dealing with several departures, including assistant head coach/offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia, linebackers coach Pepper Johnson and tight ends coach George Godsey. Losing Caserio would be the biggest hit of the bunch.
