Palmer: Vernon Davis discusses hardships with 49ers

A few things from new Denver Broncos tight end Vernon Davis during his second day with the team Wednesday.

"Everyone is asking that question, where did I go? If you look at San Francisco, look at the year when I started to drop off. What happened with the team? They started to fall all in. There were so many things going on, so much turmoil. No one really excelled. No one really had success. As a team, we didn't have success. If the team's not having success, the chances are that I'm not going to have success. That's what it is. Look at them now. They've only won two games. It's hard and it's tough to be able to play with a team where you just don't have everything that you need. Things aren't going to happen for you. To answer your question best, that's what I meant."

Vernon also talked about the 49ers and the QBs he's played with in San Francisco:

"I just had to -- where I came from, I just had to accept what I had. Not knocking those guys. Colin (Kaepernick) and Alex (Smith) were really good. They were good at their craft. They were good quarterbacks, but we're talking about Peyton Manning. It's a whole other level."

Davis was so excited to be in Gary Kubiak's offense (one where TEs can shine) and to play with Manning, he couldn't sleep in his hotel room Tuesday night. It was his first night in Denver as a member of the Broncos. And speaking of sleep, Davis said he's been dreaming of playing with Peyton Manning since College.

Vernon Davis was also one of the last players to leave the field after his first practice with the Broncos. He walked off the field a good 20 minutes after practice had already ended.

Moving forward Peyton Manning will participate in Wednesday practices. The original plan was for him to take Wednesdays off to keep him fresh for the second half of the season. Now, Manning will practice on Wednesdays on a limited basis. No throwing, but will work in the run game and with checks.
