Ndamukong Suh's latest incident of questionable on-field behavior could cost him significantly.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that the league likely will hit Suh with a "heavy" fine for his low hit on Minnesota Vikings center John Sullivan during Detroit's 34-24 win Sunday. Rapoport reported the Lions defensive tackle unlikely will be suspended for the incident, according to a league source.
Suh cut Sullivan's knees out from behind while the Vikings center was trailing an interception return by Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy. Suh was flagged for an illegal low block, which wiped out a Lions touchdown. Quarterback Matthew Stafford then threw an interception, turning Suh's gaffe into a seven-point mistake.
"I wasn't by any means going for his knees," Suh said, via ESPN.com. "He knows that. We had a great conversation running out at halftime, and he understood. My aim was his waist to cut him off."
Suh might have overestimated Sullivan's level of understanding about the situation.
"It was pretty clear that I was out of the play," Sullivan told KFXN-FM on Monday. "I don't think he was trying to hurt me, but there (needs to) be consequences when guys don't respect the careers of other players."
Suh might escape suspension this time, but you wonder how many strikes he has left before he's forced out of the lineup.
