"He was sincere about it," running back Joique Bell said, per MLive.com. "He said he knows he has a lot of red dots on his back, which means we're going to have a lot of red dots on our backs. We'll be scrutinized for every little thing we do."
Suh specifically apologized to linebacker DeAndre Levy, whose pick six was negated by Suh's unnecessary roughness penalty for a low block on Minnesota Vikings offensive lineman John Sullivan. The Lions won Sunday's game, 34-24.
"Levy accepted it," Bell said of the apology. "So if he can accept it, everybody should be able to accept it."
Suh will appeal the fine, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday, per a source who has been in touch with the defensive tackle.
Suh's history of running afoul of the league conduct policy has led to nearly $350,000 in fines and lost game checks. That history also has overshadowed his otherwise stellar play on the field and put his teammates in tough situations.
"He just basically said he can't make those kinds of mistakes, and can't put us in a position where we got to battle back from mistakes like that," wide receiver Nate Burleson said. "But after he was done a few of us screamed out, 'We love you, Suh.' So, we're family. I think we hugged, kissed after that. Sang Kumbaya. We're all good, baby."
Kumbaya, maybe. But don't look for Burleson to be pitching in his own paychecks anytime soon.
"There's not enough love in the world, man," Burleson said. "I'll send him a card on Valentine's Day, but I don't love him that much."
