The Giants knew they had to sign running backs in free agency, and then draft a few more. They got the free agency part of the equation out of the way quickly.
Rashad Jennings tweeted Tuesday that is the newest member of Big Blue.
Jennings joins the Giants on the same day that Peyton Hillisre-signed with the team. It looks like Andre Brown, now a free agent, might wind up elsewhere. (Jennings' old teammate Darren McFadden, meanwhile, stayed in Oakland with the Raiders.)
The Giants were active Tuesday picking at the edges of free agency. NFL Media's Kimberly Jones reports that the team has agreed to a contract with guard Geoff Schwartz. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that former Seattle Seahawks pass rusher O'Brien Schofield agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract.
Jennings and Schofield were two players who could have been signed for virtually nothing at this time a year ago. Jennings wound up breaking out as a part-time starter in Oakland. Schofield was an effective situational pass rusher in Seattle.
Paying guys like that the year after they break out rarely pays off.
