The Dallas Cowboys will go another week without Morris Claiborne.
The second-year pro cornerback told a local radio station Tuesday that he won't play against the Washington Redskins on Sunday because of the hamstring injury that's forced him out of the past three games, per ESPNDallas.com.
Claiborne was expected to be active for Sunday's loss to the Green Bay Packers, but he missed the game because of his father's death and the birth of his daughter, Madison. The 2012 first-round draft pick acknowledged that his rehab was delayed by those events.
"Getting treatment and not being here to do stuff because I had to go home, it set us back," Claiborne told KESN-FM. "It was a big setback. ... I'm in the same sense of where I was the first time. So I sat down with the trainers and we talked about it, and it could go either way. 'We need you. But we're not going to play you this week.' (It) gives it a little bit more time and see what happens for the last game."
The loss of Claiborne further chips away at a sunk defense already missing middle linebacker Sean Lee. Drafted sixth overall last season to transform the Dallas secondary, Claiborne has struggled to stay on the field and currently sits as the league's 90th-ranked cornerback, per Pro Football Focus.
Getting Claiborne back for the season finale against the Eagles would help, but he's far from savior material for the Cowboys.
