Miles Austin sits at Cowboys camp with bad hamstring

The Dallas Cowboys are temporarily shutting down Miles Austin.

Darlington: Why I love training camp

Training camp is here! Jeff Darlington provides 42 reasons why he absolutely cherishes this roster-shaping process. **More ...**

The wide receiver strained his hamstring during practice Saturday and is expected to miss up to a week, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Sunday, via The Associated Press.

Austin missed six games and much of training camp last season with hamstring issues.

Though the Cowboys went 5-1 without Austin last season, they might not have the same depth if he were to go down again.

Laurent Robinson, who caught a team-high 11 touchdowns in 2011, signed a lucrative free-agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason. Dez Bryant, the Cowboys' other starting wide receiver, has had his own issues this summer.

Austin was replaced on the field by undrafted rookie Cole Beasley. The receiver told Garrett on Friday that he planned to quit football and return to Dallas, but he changed his mind and was expected to participate in Sunday's afternoon scrimmage, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Beasley said he was dealing with personal issues at home, but he's now fully focused on football. Well, that's good.
