Jenkins is coming off shoulder surgery and has yet to receive medical clearance to return to the field. The 2008 first-round draft pick out of South Florida has expressed his unhappiness with his current contract, which has one year remaining with a base salary of $1.052 million.

Jenkins skipped the voluntary portion of the Cowboys' offseason workouts before reporting for the mandatory minicamp in June. Jenkins' attendance at minicamp was a sign that he was not going to risk the $30,000 in daily fines the Cowboys could impose if he were to hold out of training camp.

Jenkins was briefly placed on the trade market as the team signed former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Brandon Carr to a five-year, $50.1 million contract in free agency and traded up to select LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne in the first round.

Carr and Claiborne are projected to start with Orlando Scandrick, who signed a five-year, $25 million extension last September. In what might be an attempt to maximize their return in a possible trade, the Cowboys have maintained that Jenkins is a part of their long-term future despite the considerable financial and draft investments the club has made at the position.

In other news pertaining to Cowboys 2008 first-round draft picks who are coming off shoulder surgery, running back Felix Joneshas been cleared by team doctors and will be able to practice when the team opens up training camp on July 30.
