Jenkins is coming off shoulder surgery and has yet to receive medical clearance to return to the field. The 2008 first-round draft pick out of South Florida has expressed his unhappiness with his current contract, which has one year remaining with a base salary of $1.052 million.
Jenkins was briefly placed on the trade market as the team signed former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Brandon Carr to a five-year, $50.1 million contract in free agency and traded up to select LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne in the first round.
Carr and Claiborne are projected to start with Orlando Scandrick, who signed a five-year, $25 million extension last September. In what might be an attempt to maximize their return in a possible trade, the Cowboys have maintained that Jenkins is a part of their long-term future despite the considerable financial and draft investments the club has made at the position.
