Mike Holmgren: 'Time will fix' Brett Favre-Packers rift

Mike Holmgren is scheduled to be inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame on Saturday night, so it only makes sense he's peppered with questions about the man who helped get him there: Brett Favre.

Favre teamed with his old coach to win Super Bowl XXXI and together they delivered seven straight winning seasons to Packers fans.

Holmgren was asked Friday what has become a common question of late: Will Favre and the Packers ever mend fences after their messy split in 2008?

"I think time has a way of healing most things. And I think time will fix this thing up," Holmgren told ESPNWisconsin.com. "Brett sent me really a nice text about tomorrow night, and I appreciated that, but for him, and I kind of understand where he's coming from a little bit ... I know how everyone would like to make this a better situation than it is right now, and it will be. In time, it will be. But right now, I guess it's a little too close to the time."

Holmgren spoke about the passage of time in football. Old stars move on and eventually fade. Peyton Manning is no longer in Indianapolis. Joe Montana didn't finish his career in San Francisco, and Tom Brady won't play forever.

Favre told NFL Network, during an interview that aired this week, that he had "no relationship" with the Packers. He once did, and many would like to see it restored. Per the usual, that only will happen on Brett's clock.

UPDATE: Former Green Bay Packers defensive back Leroy Butler, who played under Holmgren and with Favre, tweeted that it would've been nice for the quarterback to have attended Holmgren's induction, saying he owed much to the coach.
