A second-round draft pick out of Oregon in 2009, Unger started and logged every snap in all 16 games as a rookie for the Seahawks, mostly playing at right guard before finishing the season at center. Unger opened 2010 as the Seahawks' starting right guard, but he suffered a toe injury that landed him on injured reserve.
Financial terms weren't disclosed, but 6-foot-5, 305-pound Unger was scheduled to earn $565,000 in 2012, the final year of his four-year, $3.214 million rookie contract.
Unger also said he was pleased with his extension.
"I am very happy about this new deal," Unger said. "We have a developing young line that had some success last year that we can build upon this season. It's a good deal for the both of us and I couldn't be happier to be in Seattle."
