Matt Hasselbeck to start in Tennessee Titans' preseason opener

Mike Munchak has yet to name his starting quarterback, but the Tennessee Titans coach said Thursday that Matt Hasselbeck will start Saturday's preseason opener against his former team, the Seattle Seahawks, according to TitanInsider.com.

Munchak said he plans to have Hasselbeck take between 11 and 15 snaps before giving way to second-year pro Jake Locker for the rest of the first half.

"It wasn't a big decision. I think Matt (Hasselbeck) deserves the start," Munchak said. "If it means anything, it's his hometown and where he's played. He was a starter last year, so I think he should be the first one out of the box with the ball in his hand."

Hasselbeck threw for 3,571 yards and 18 touchdowns with 14 interceptions last season after signing with the Titans during the offseason, but the 14th-year pro has battled with Locker, the No. 8 overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, in this year's training camp.

Munchak has said he hopes to pick a starter by the Titans' third preseason game, Aug. 23 against the Arizona Cardinals.
