Marcus McNeill, ex-San Diego Charger, reportedly will retire

Former San Diego Chargers offensive tackle Marcus McNeill has decided to retire because of recurring spinal issues, U-T San Diego reported Thursday.

McNeill, 29, finished last season on injury reserve and was released by the Chargers in March.

The Chargers gave McNeill a five-year, $49 million contract extension in October 2010.

A second-round draft pick of the Chargers out of Auburn in 2006, McNeill made 82 starts for San Diego and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2006 and 2007.
