When Smith first made the switch this past offseason, he softened the blow by deeming Glennon his "quarterback of the future."
After benching Glennon for McCown halfway through a lost season, Smith insisted that nothing has changed regarding Glennon's standing with the club.
Per Roy Cummings of The Tampa Tribune, Smith said Wednesday that Glennon is still the quarterback of the future.
"I think this gives us the best chance to win now," Smith explained, emphasizing that his team is still alive in an underwhelming NFC South.
If Glennon was truly the quarterback of the future, he wouldn't have been benched for a 35-year-old journeyman on a 1-7 team. If the second-year passer was held in high regard by the front office, McCown wouldn't have been added to the roster in the first place.
Actions speak louder than words.
