NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that the Arizona Cardinalshave agreed to ship offensive tackle Levi Brown to the Steelers for a conditional draft pick, per a source involved in the deal. The Steelers later confirmed the move via Twitter. Cornerback Isaiah Green was released to clear a roster spot for Brown.
It's an odd move.
Adams has been a turnstile this season. He needs to be replaced, but anyone watching Cardinals film has seen Brown pop off the screen as a massive liability. Brown was flamed by Rams pass rusher Robert Quinn in the season opener, and accountable for a Saints bum-rush in Week 3. Fifty-nine offensive tackles currently grade higher on the field this season, per Pro Football Focus.
The Steelers take on what's left of the five-year, $30 million contract Brown -- a former No. 5 overall draft pick -- signed in 2012.
This can be spun as Pittsburgh acquiring a veteran, but it's telling that Arizona is willing to shop its starting left tackle in October.
