Le'Veon Bell out this week for Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie running back Le'Veon Bell will miss this week's preseason game with a mid-foot sprain. The question remains if he'll miss much of the regular season.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin announced Thursday that Bell won't need surgery. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette had reported that Bell's injury is not as serious as the one that will keep Steelers tight end Matt Spaeth out eight to 10 weeks, but Bell will miss an extended period of time.

Tomlin must feel like it's Groundhog Day. He couldn't get his running game in gear last year, largely because of injuries. The offensive line now is healthy, but Bell, Isaac Redman (stinger), LaRod Stephens-Howling (knee) and Baron Batch (stinger) all are hurt.

Bell and Redman have been listed as "co-starters," but the rookie was expected to be The Man. Instead, it appears the Steelers will have to ask Ben Roethlisberger to carry a bigger load of the offense. Again.
