Lawrence Okoye to 49ers leads free-agent rookie deals

Aaron Rodgers' quarterback brother, Jordan Rodgers, is headed to the Jacksonville Jaguars, but the most interesting story among the undrafted free agents is British discus record-holder Lawrence Okoye, now a member of the San Francisco 49ers.

The 2012 Olympian was the star of the NFL Super Regional Combine early this month, posting a 10-foot-5 broad jump, a 35-inch vertical jump and a 4.78 40-yard dash at 6-foot-6 and 304 pounds.

Although Okoye never has played football before, he's already made an impression on 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh. "Inadequate -- that was my first impression standing next to him," Harbaugh said Saturday via the Sacramento Bee. "An Adonis, a great physical specimen of a man. ... Our creator created a beautiful man."

The question is whether Harbaugh loses Okoye on waivers this summer while trying to squeeze a dozen rookies onto a stacked roster.

Let's take a look at some of the other big-name undrafted free agents:

» Perhaps the most surprising event of the draft's third day is that strong-armed Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray went unsigned after drawing interest from the Pittsburgh Steelers among other teams. Bray reportedly turned teams off with his immaturity and poor showing in the interview process. (UPDATE: Multiple reports Sunday indicate Bray signed with the Kansas City Chiefs.)

» Several teams removed Tennessee Tech's Da'Rick Rodgers from their draft boards after three failed drug tests got him kicked out of Tennessee, but the wide receiver was among the most physically gifted in this draft class. He has signed with the Buffalo Bills, reports USA Today's Mike Garafolo. Drawing comparisons to Terrell Owens and Brandon Marshall for his physicality and run-after-catch ability, Rogers could end up having a greater impact on the Bills than second- and third-rounders Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin.

» Kansas State's Collin Klein, the No. 7 quarterback on NFL.com analyst Gil Brandt's list of top undrafted rookies, was signed by the Houston Texans, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Expect him to be converted to tight end at the next level.

» Tulane's Ryan Griffinconducted more pre-drafted workouts than any quarterback in this year's draft class. After going undrafted, he ended up signing with the Saints, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
