In a warning to all fans overly excited about free agency, the Jacksonville Jaguars officially released wide receiver Laurent Robinson on Wednesday.Â
It was only one year ago that Robinson was given a supposed "five-year, $32 million contract."
Robinson was a typical big free-agent signing. He was a role player who had one big year, then was paid like a star.
Robinson's repeated concussion problems in Jacksonville never allowed him to stay on the field, but he was able to pass his team physical before the Jaguars released him, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported.
But Robinson told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he was light-headed during a Tuesday workout, and there's no way he could line up and play a game tomorrow.
Robinson later issued a statement on Twitter thanking the Jaguars and the city of Jacksonville: "It was a blessing to play professionally in my home state and close to my family. I look forward to what the future holds and can't wait for the next opportunity on this journey!"
Robinson received $14 million guaranteed from the Jaguars, but he struggled even when healthy in training camp. He then suffered four concussions and finished the season with 24 catches for 252 yards and no touchdowns.
Robinson's story is a sad one; it's possible he will never play football again. If he's interested in getting back on the field, his old team in Dallas possibly could be interested at a bargain price.
