Josh Morgan, Chicago Bears strike one-year contract

Josh Morgan signed a one-year contract Monday with the Chicago Bears, the team announced. His arrival will bolster a top-heavy wide receiving corps.

Morgan, who spent the past two seasons with the Washington Redskins, is expected to battle for the No. 3 spot. After the BearsreleasedEarl Bennett in March, Morgan will add some essential depth to the trio of Marquess Wilson, Eric Weems and Chris Williams, who had a combined three receptions last season.

A part-time starter in 2013, the 6-foot-1, 220-pound receiver collected 20 catches and a career-low 214 receiving yards. However, with Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery certain to garner most of Jay Cutler's aerial targets, Morgan's value will come into play more in the Bears' return game.

The 28-year-old Virginia Tech product has massive shoes to fill on special teams, as Devin Hester and his NFL-record 19 return touchdowns have departed for Atlanta. In 12 kick returns and eight punt returns last season, Morgan failed to reach the end zone.
