Jonathan Martin's NFL future will continue under a familiar coach, in a familiar setting.
The Miami Dolphinsannounced they traded Martin to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick. Martin played under coach Jim Harbaugh at Stanford before getting drafted by the Dolphins in the second round of the 2012 draft.
"We feel that this move is in the best interests of all parties involved. We wish Jonathan well," Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey said.
Miami owner Stephen Ross said last month that he was "prepared to listen" to Martin regarding the team's bullying scandal, and the organization did not rule out bringing Martin back to the team. Finding another NFL home for Martin, however, always made more sense.
In San Francisco, Martin figures to compete for playing time as a swing tackle behind Joe Staley and Anthony Davis. Considering Davis' inconsistent pass blocking, perhaps Martin will challenge to start at right tackle.
