San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh is confident quarterback Colin Kaepernick is innocent of any wrongdoing connected to a police-investigated incident in Miami earlier this month.
"Looking at Colin Kaepernick's situation, at some point there needs to be a resolution to some of this jump-the-gun, witch-hunt scenario we're seeing," Harbaugh said Friday, according to the Bay Area News Group.
The Miami Police Department confirmed Kaepernick, Niners wide receiver Quinton Patton and Seattle Seahawks receiver Ricardo Lockette were named as persons involved in an incident report filed April 4. In a message on Twitter, Kaepernick promised fans their faith in him was not misplaced.
"I've seen one side reported. I've heard the other side," Harbaugh said. "I feel very good there'll be a good resolution, and hopefully a just one, too. I hate to see his reputation be the victim."
Harbaugh elaborated on his opinion regarding the matter.
"Winston Churchill had a great quote: 'A lie will get halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to put on its pants,'" Harbaugh said. "At some point there needs to be a resolution to this scenario. The only victim in Colin's case is Colin's reputation."
Harbaugh leaves no doubt where he stands on the matter. The Niners are being more cautious. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported last week that the Niners pulled the plug on Kaepernick contract negotiations until the Miami incident is resolved.
Niners general manager Trent Baalke denied that was the case Friday.
